St. Mary's School
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS
17 December 2006
Christmas celebration is unique in the festivities observed all over the world and the Christmas season provides a joyous atmosphere everywhere. THis is true in the case of St. Mary's School, Bangalore which was started in the year 2004, arising from a vision and recognizing a deep felt need to provide free education to the little children of poor families living in the area. The work begun in a small scale has picked up well and apart from giving education to the children also provides them with various other benefits.
As in the past, this year also Christmas was celebrated in a grand manner on SUnday, the 17th of December 2006. Decoration of the venue of the meeting as well as illumination by colorful bulbs of the building during the night, provided a real festive atmosphere.
The public meeting which was held at 11.30 Am was attended by a large audience which specially included the mothers of the children. While welcoming the distinguished guests, Rev. Sr. Thankamma Varkey had introduced them to the audience. The principal speakers on the occasion were Rev. Dr. Mani Chacko and Mrs. Savitha Swaraj. In his message, Rev. Dr. Mani Chacko spoke of the importance in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ as in a troubled world Christ is the hope of providing a new world as the savior of mankind. The excellent translation from English into Kannnada provided by Mr. Mathews greatly helped the people in the the understanding of the speeches made on the occasion.
The presence of Mrs. Penny Alexander and the two benefactors to the building namely Dr. Roy Mathews and Dr. Lalitha Manoharan was a great encouragement and revealed their interest in the welfare activities and the programmes conducted here.
A special feature of the attraction was the various entertainment programmes which have reference to Christmas and the nativity scenes provided by the children. This included songs and dances of the children. The credit for this should go to Mrs. Susan George and the tireless efforts put in by the teachers in preparing and training the little children for providing such a good performance to the obvious delight of everyone.
The children were presented with one set of uniforms and a sweater each as a christmas present and these were presented to each child by the distinguished guests in rotation. Everyone present on the occasion was provided a sumptuous lunch at the close of the function.
It is worth mentioning that Rev. Sr. Thankamma Varkey concluded her welcome address at the beginning of the programme by saying " May this Christmas fill you with joy and peace and may the spirit of God guide you in the New Year with all the joys and fulfilled hopes:.
